Reformer lessons The Reformer is an amazing
piece of equipment. It can be used by people who are relatively new to Pilates right through to those who
are advanced and everyone in between. The Reformer was originally developed as a way to assist people who had problems
or injuries, as the springs and pulleys can be used to support part of their body weight. This allows them to exercise
muscles without overloading a damaged joint or region. However, as well as providing help with rehabilitation from injury,
it can also be used to challenge healthy people to improve their core strength and general muscle tone. This can be
done by changing the tension used on the Reformer. For example, some exercises are made considerably harder
by decreasing the tension of the springs.
Beginners
For clients who are new to Pilates, the Reformer can be of immense help in providing feedback. It can let you know if you are doing an exercise correctly - due to the moving carriage. For example, some exercises are designed so that you use certain muscles to control the carriage and prevent it from moving. This allows you to work more precisely on muscular control, as you are getting instant feedback. The Reformer can also provide support to various parts of your body, allowing you to develop the correct techniques, before challenging you further by changing the resistance. Intermediate - Advanced For those who already have experience of mat-based pilates - the Reformer can be used to take your training to a different level. The Reformer can provide greater challenges and new exercises to help improve your core strength and posture. As well as core strength, it is also very helpful in improving muscle strength and tone in your shoulders, arms and legs. If you feel you have reached a plateau in your training then the Reformer can open up a whole new side to Pilates. People with specific
